Marina Machado de Oliveira

Welcome! Born and raised in Sao Paulo ,SP, Brazil, Marina is a Ph.D. Candidate in Comparative Literature. Her interests include 19th and 20th century Brazilian and African American literatures, literary theory, nation-building, race, anthropology and philosophical approaches to literature. Her research focuses on analyzing "mestiçagem" as a structural part of some foundational or great narratives in Brazil and the U.S., exploring mixed-race identi(ties) in both countries beyond the dichotomy mixing versus segregation.

Marinaa is a 2021 recipient of the EDGE (Enhancing Diversity in Graduate Education) fellowship for outstanding incoming students. She is also a co-founder of the Black Brazilian Collective at èצӰÏñ and a 2024-2025 Graduate Scholar-in-Residence at El Centro Chicano y Latino, èצӰÏñ.
