Recap: DLCL Winter Tea 2014
On January 17th 2014, the DLCL held its annual Winter Tea. This year we used the occasion to celebrate the renovations we have made in Pigott Hall: a new graduate student lounge on the third floor and a new kitchen and mailroom on the second floor. Whereas we used to have separate mailrooms for faculty, staff, and lecturers, the new space has room for all these groups and is meant to foster community. DLCL faculty, lecturers, graduate students, visitors, and staff convened on the third floor to enjoy some refreshments. DLCL chair Gabriella Safran notes, "Remodeling is really hard! I'm grateful to the faculty, lecturers, students, and staff in the DLCL departments for making this a smooth process. People had great ideas about what to change and how, and many people tolerated being displaced over the summer, and Lucas Coe did the heaviest lifting coordinating all of this. I am so glad to see the new spaces being used now."
To celebrate the opening of the new mailroom, students and lecturers read poems in Russian, Hebrew, and Mandarin on the themes of mail, mailboxes, and other administrativia, as well as remodeling.
Following the poetry reading, DLCL chair Gabriella Safran thanked all the faculty, lecturers, students, and staff who helped design and carry out the renovation. She then cut the ribbon and officially opened the new mailroom. We would like to thank everyone who helped contribute to this important and successful event.
