Welcome Event: Rereading Marjorie Perloff
We warmly invite you to the first Workshop in Poetics event of the 2024-2025 academic year, as part of the newly launched èצӰ Center for Poetics.
Please join us for a welcome gathering for the Poetics community - we hope to see new and familiar faces as we begin our first year as a center with more programming and activities. In anticipation of the inaugural Marjorie Perloff Annual Lecture (on November 14th), we will dedicate this first gathering to a new-old format for the Workshop, the Lost Classics event in which we return to important texts and discuss them in a new light. For this event, we will be discussing two pieces by Perloff — one of the most important critics of poetry, and of avant-garde poetics in particular, of our time. The pieces we will discuss, “Becoming a Critic: An Academic Memoir” and “On Evaluation in Poetry: Dialogue with Robert von Hallberg,” will give us a chance to reflect on the many sides of Perloff’s career with a wide lens.
Please join us on October 17 at 4pm in Building 260, Room 216. We will begin with a toast and an introduction to the new Center for Poetics and then discuss Perloff’s texts over drinks and snacks.
