Maha Nassar (Modern Middle East History, Islamic Studies, University of Arizona) will give a talk titled "Steadfast on Campus: A Century of Global Palestinian Student Activism"

In this wide-ranging talk, Dr. Maha Nassar examines the transnational history of Palestinian student activism over the last century. Drawing on the Palestinian epistemological concept of á¹£u³¾Å«»å&²Ô²ú²õ±è;(steadfastness), she argues that university students have long been at the forefront of Palestinians’ global movement for liberation. Yet she also uncovers intra-Palestinian contestations, where students from various political and ideological backgrounds debated what Palestinian liberation looks like and the best means to achieve it. She concludes by showing how today’s student activists are not only building upon this global history, but also bringing into sharp relief broader questions about the purpose of higher education.
