For the second event of our Renaissances Graduate Research Series,Ìýa series of conversations between advanced Ph.D. students at èצӰÏñ and interlocutors of their work, Jessica Beckman,ÌýPh.D. candidate in the Department of English at èצӰÏñ, andÌýMolly Murray,ÌýAssociate Professor of English andÌýComparative Literature, at Columbia University, will discuss Beckman’s dissertation project:Ìý"The Mind's Eye: Vision, Text, and Thought in Early Modern English Print."

Beckman studies literaryÌýformalism, print technology,Ìýand theÌýhistory of reading in early modernÌýEngland.ÌýIn her discussion with ProfessorÌýMurray, she wishes to reflect on how the study of literary formÌýcan be reconsideredÌýthrough an expanded archive that embraces the contingent circumstances and multiple agents involved in 16th and 17thÌýcentury literary production.Ìý

The event will take place on Thursday, April 4, in 260-216, from 6 to 8pm.Ìý

Jessica Beckman and Molly Murray will briefly present their works in progress: selections fromÌýBeckman’s dissertation chapter entitled "Reading in Space", and Professor Murray’s book introduction “Writing the Prison in Early Modern England."ÌýThese presentations willÌýset up points of intersection between the two projectsÌýand we will then open the floor to discussion and questions.
