PATH+ "Peripheral Modernity and The Blind Owl's Grim Laughter" with Omid Azadibougar

This talk will problematize the reception of Sadegh Hedayat's The Blind Owl and revisit this novel in light of the concept of "peripheral modernity" as an integral formal feature of his fictional works. To read this text, Professor Azadibougar will draw on Hedayat's satirical texts and his "lost" manuscript, Tup-e Morvari (The Pearl Cannon).
Omid Azadibougar is Professor of Comparative Literature and Translation at , China. He is the author of The Persian Novel: Ideology, Fiction and Form in the Periphery (2014) and World Literature and Hedayat's Poetics of Modernity (2019), and co-editor of Persian Literature as World Literature (2021).
