Richard Rorty's family is holding an informal memorial service for him at the èצӰÏñ Faculty Club, Saturday June 30 from 3 to 5 pm. Let Mary Rorty know (at mvr2j [at] stanford.edu (mvr2j[at]stanford[dot]edu)) if you intend to come.

One of Dick's friends sent us one of his favorite Rorty-isms (Rorty on the purpose of undergraduate education: "To produce tax-and-spend liberals.") If you too cherish a characteristic moment, send it to me and we'll pass it on.

No flowers, please--donations in his memory to the ACLU, Amnesty International or Medecins Sans Frontieres would be more consonant with his values, and appreciated by his family.
