In April 2025, prolific Kurdish writer Bachtyar Ali and translator Kareem Abdulrahman will be at èצӰ as part of the èצӰ Humanities Center’s International Visitors Program. In the spirit of inviting them here, we will hold a conference, entitled “Kî ne em? Kurdish Literature and Its Studies” dedicated to the state of Kurdish literature. The conference is organized by the Department of Comparative Literature and supported by many more centers and institutions on campus. Bringing together practitioners, scholars, creative artists, and critics aims to strengthen the foundation of a field still in the process of establishing itself in U.S. academia—and beyond.

The conference will consist of three sections:

Kurdish Literary Studies: Taking Inventory of Creative Production and Scholarly Engagement Creative Production: A Creative Roundtable with Authors, Translators, and Publishers Kurdish Studies: An Emergent Field Beyond Literary Studies

To conclude two intense days of talks and discussion, we will end with a musical treat, meze, and a collaborative poetry reading and translating event to foster the connection between scholars, practitioners, community members, and members of the audience.
