How to Be Gay
Speakers): David Halperin (University of Michigan)
featuring discussants:
Terry Castle (English)
Adrian Daub (German)
Prof. Halperin (PhD èצӰÏñ '80) is the W.H. Auden Distinguished University Professor of the History and Theory of Sexuality at the University of Michigan. His newest book invites us to conceive male homosexuality as a style or mode of perception that generates a series of distinctive social and cultural practices. Controversially, he argues that gayness is a practice one can do well or badly.
After brief remarks by the panelists and a response by Prof. Halperin, we welcome all members of the public to participate. Refreshments and snacks will be provided.
