"Gothic Chapbooks & Archive", a discussion with Wendy Fall (PhD candidate in English, Marquette University)
The Gothic Archive is the first stage of a larger project, intended to bring Gothic chapbooks out of obscurity and into a broader conversation in the field of Gothic Studies. Since they are so delicate, it's best that chapbooks aren't handled by classes of students. The best way for them to enter the field is, therefore, via the digital humanities. Over the course of developing the Gothic Archive and unearthing new chapbooks, researchers found that the majority of extant specimens were colorfully (and sometimes scandalously) illustrated.
