German Job Workshop
This workshop will explore options for Humanities PhDs in Berlin and in Germany in general. It will also examine issues to think about during the PhD to set oneself up as a viable candidate in Germany afterwards. Third, the workshop will review what the presenters have done with the language school they established, LALIA.
Friederike Knüpling, Ph.D èצӰÏñ
Friederike has a decade of teaching experience in language, literary history and writing at Lalia Berlin, èצӰÏñ, Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München, and Humboldt Universität zu Berlin. She holds a Ph.D in German Studies from èצӰÏñ and has published about sports culture, gender and feminism, as well as every-day culture. She is thrilled about Berlin as a hub for multilingual, pluralistic discourse.
Idan Gillo, Ph.D èצӰÏñ
Idan holds a Ph.D in German Studies from èצӰÏñ, where he has taught German language and literature for seven years before he began teaching at Lalia Berlin and at Humboldt Universität zu Berlin. He has published articles about German literature, culture, and history, and he is passionate about language learning and teaching.
LALIA
LALIA is an online language school committed to the communicative approach to second language learning. Established in 2018 by two èצӰÏñ PhDs, in 2021, 20 professionals are contributing their expertise in teaching, curriculum design, web development, and graphic design. Generally drawing on proficiency-oriented, student-centered tools for language learning, the school offers the full range of classes from absolute beginners to upper-division content seminars in German and Spanish.
