When Dr. Robert Ledgard loses his wife in a fire after a car accident, he becomes obsessed with the idea of creating, at any price, an invulnerable artificial skin. With that goal in mind, he isolates himself from the rest of the world in an aseptic, disturbing mansion with the only company of Marilia, his servant... and the enigmatic presence of a woman. Having a very particular connection with Frankenstein, the Beauty and the Beast and the myth of Pygmalion, this Pedro Almodovar's master piece explores the limits of science and ethics as well as the unstoppable (and quite useless) fight of human kind against death. In the end... who is more monstrous, the creation or the creator?
