Sans Soleil, or “Sunless,” is an experimental documentary that juxtaposes images and sounds from around the globe in a meditation on nature, history, and the nuances of human memory. Chris Marker’s 1983 film ties together footage from diverse daily realities of the human experience with a series of letters read by an evocative and thought provoking female narrator.
