The first cinematic adaptation of Karl May’s Wild West novels stars Pierre Brice as Winnetou, the chief of the Apaches, Lex Barker as the frontiersman Old Shatterhand, and Götz George as Fred Engel. Inspired by the American Western movies of the 1950s, this European co-production aims to portray the western frontier through the romantic lens of the German 19th century popular author Karl May. In the story murders are committed in order to get the map that leads to the title giving treasure of silver lake. The ruthless outlaws, who came into possession of the map can only be stopped by the noble friends Winnetou and Old Shatterhand.
