In his award winning documentary Grizzly Man (2005) acclaimed German director Werner Herzog illustrates the life and death of Timothy Treadwell who spent 13 summers closely interacting with grizzly bears in Katmai National Park, Alaska before he and his girlfriend were killed and partially eaten by a grizzly.  Herzog’s film is based on Treadwell’s own footage and includes interviews with people connected with the controversial activist who aimed to raise awareness about the problems grizzly bears face in North America and the media.
