“Russian Literature of the Twenty-First Century in Its Relation to the Twentieth"

Dr. Marietta Chudakova is the author of more than 300 works on the history of 20th-century Russian literature, including monographs on Yuri Olesha (Masterstvo Yuriia Oleshi [1972]), Mikhail Zoshchenko (Poetika Mikhaila Zoshchenko [1979]), Mikhail Bulgakov (Zhizneiopisanie Mikhaila Bulgakova [1988, 1989]), and most recently a collection of works on the history of Russian literature of the Soviet period (Literatura sovetskogo proshlogo [2001]). She is Professor of Russian Literature at the Herzen Literary Institute in Moscow and a member of the Union of Russian Writers. She has been a long-standing member of the editorial board of the journals Novy mir and Chelovek. A public intellectual and a political activist, Chudakova served on the Presidential Clemency Board of the Russian Federation (1994-2000). She has been a leading member of the Union of The Right Forces (Soiuz pravykh sil) and is presently member of the governing board of the party For the Right Cause (Pravoe delo). She lives in Moscow.
